Candles Flicker

A poem by Ally Hella

Candles flicker, flowers bloom.

There is beauty around us,

amidst the gloom.

Hearts are heavy, simple things

are hard.

Then the phone rings,

and the mailman brings a card.

Friends I have not heard from in many years

reach out and comfort as I’m full of tears.

Sometimes the world has to come crashing down

for you to realize who has always been around.

It will take time, maybe not overnight,

but I hope you look up and see the light.

The sun, the moon, the stars & smiles,

on the days when laundry is in heaping piles.

I hope you accept the love that’s waiting to be let in,

and remember that moving forward is not a sin.
